The most interesting talks are those that used the outline for just that, an outline. The details were filled in with illustrations and efforts to make it accessible to the listeners. I hated it when people presumed to have answers to questions that no one else had, ie: how old Adam was, what we would wear after armageddon and such. I stuck with the nuts and bolts of the info, using the scriptures and expounding on them and illustrating them. You can't go wrong if you do that. I downplayed the works for righteousness as often as I could. I focused on those parts of the outline that were specific to the scripture and not some big WT article.....
When speakers try to use every line of the outline provided it was grueling and boring beyond endurance. Those talks sucked. There may not have been many props or physical illustrations allowed, but a good speaker could make those subjects really shine. I think that's why there is such a cult of personality when it comes to public speakers... The old, "He's a great brother... you should hear his talks!" crap.
It's all smoke and mirrors, without the smoke and mirrors. They're not allowed.

Why cant JW's be police officers?
by pepperdoodles inhi there, new to the board.
i was raised a jw but as i got older i started thinking for myslef and now i am at the point where i need to figure out what i believe in.

Pepperdoodles, great name first off.
I thought you were being ironic as in, "Why can't JW's be police officers" meaning elders are such great detectives, why can't they be cops. The world would have very few unsolved crimes if the elders were the cops. They would make up an answer even if they couldn't find one and there would be a 100% conviction rate.
Wait a minute, that's what the cops do anyway. My brother in law was a JW and a sheriff's officer. Wouldn't stand for the anthem at a sporting even while sitting in front of the DA. That was the end of his carear. No promotions. He's retired and inactive now.

My personal reaction would be one of relaxed pleasure. I would then see how many different individuals of varying faiths would stick with thier faith and defy the law. It wouldn't just be the Jehooviedoobs that would not comply. It would be the ultimate proof that they are full of themselves in thinking they would be the only ones left standing....
